Dr. Leona Onderdonk Rowan, Spring Hill College professor and teacher certification officer, was recently awarded $2,500 from the Bedsole Foundation to fund a local literacy project.
Dr. Rowan's grant will provide tutoring, instructional supplies, and children's books for struggling readers who are currently enrolled in elementary schools in Mobile. Each child selected to participate in the project will receive approximately 20 hours of individualized tutoring by a SHC student enrolled in Dr. Rowan's EDU 325 course.
